Despite EAC free trade provisions, the corridor operates with duplicate documentation at the Kenya-Tanzania border at Namanga and Lunga Lunga, with average dwell times of 2.8 days for trucks carrying identical cargo that crosses the EU's most complex borders in under 4 hours. EAC's One-Stop Border Post programme at Namanga, upgraded in 2024 with ASYCUDA World integration, has reduced official processing time to 6 hours — but logistics operators who have not updated their documentation workflows are still experiencing legacy delays. This logistics partnership structures a coordinated Kenya-Tanzania corridor service between a verified Kenyan road logistics company (Nairobi or Mombasa base, minimum 30-truck fleet, KEBS transport certification) and a Tanzanian counterpart (Dar es Salaam or Arusha base, TRA-licensed customs agent, TAZARA or road distribution capability to upcountry). Annual bilateral contract value $2M-$7M covering consolidated freight for FMCG, construction materials, and agri-commodity clients. The ideal Kenyan partner has existing Tanzania transit operations, EAC NTSA licensing, and cross-border cargo insurance capability. The Tanzanian partner must demonstrate TRA customs agent licence, Dar port access, and distribution relationships in minimum 3 Tanzanian regions. Both parties verified at Basic tier; transport licences, insurance documentation, and cross-border volume history reviewed in the deal room. EAC's Customs Union Protocol — entering Phase 3 with single customs territory provisions from July 2026 — will for the first time allow bonded transit cargo to move from Mombasa to Kigali without re-examination at each national border. Logistics partnerships established before July 2026 will be first to implement single customs territory procedures, capturing the operational efficiency advantage before competitors recognise the protocol change.
