Pan-African Agri-Processing Investment Portfolio – Value Addition Initiative

Requirement

Africa exports over $35 billion in raw agricultural commodities annually, yet captures less than 10% of global agricultural value addition. This $75 million investment portfolio targets the enormous opportunity in African agri-processing, focusing on facilities that transform raw commodities into processed products for domestic consumption and export. The portfolio comprises equity investments in six agri-processing ventures across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Ethiopia: a cocoa processing facility producing butter and powder for European markets, a cashew processing plant serving premium international buyers, a maize milling and fortification operation for regional food security, a coffee roasting and packaging facility capturing specialty premiums, a fruit processing plant producing concentrates and dried products, and an oilseed crushing facility serving the regional cooking oil market. We are seeking investment partners, technical operators, and off-take partners to scale these ventures. Each portfolio company has proven management teams, established supplier networks with smallholder farmer linkages, and identified routes to market. The fund structure allows investors to participate in the portfolio or select individual ventures. The investment thesis is supported by structural trends: Africa's food import bill exceeds $40 billion annually and is growing, the African Continental Free Trade Area creates a 1.3 billion person market, and processing margins significantly exceed raw commodity trading margins. Target returns of 20-25% IRR reflect growth equity risk premiums, with downside protection through hard asset backing and diversification. Impact metrics include 50,000+ smallholder farmers linked to formal value chains and 5,000+ direct jobs created.
