Requirement
Hawassa Industrial Park was built to do one thing: put Ethiopian garment manufacturing on the map for international brands. It offers purpose-built sheds, power, effluent treatment and a trained labour pool concentrated in one location — infrastructure that a standalone factory in Ethiopia would spend years and considerable capital assembling. This joint venture establishes garment manufacturing in the park with capacity for 2 million pieces per year. The partner sought brings production management capability and, critically, brand relationships — the buyers who place the orders that fill a 2 million piece line. Ethiopian labour costs are among the lowest in global garment manufacturing and the five-year tax holiday improves landed economics further, but neither compensates for an unfilled line. Buyers should assess the market access question directly. Ethiopia's AGOA eligibility has been subject to change, which affects duty-free access to the United States and therefore the calculation for US-bound production; European market access operates on different terms. Investors and partners must form their own view on that exposure rather than assume continuity. Indicative capital requirement is $8M-$12M depending on equipment specification and the working capital the order book demands.
