India is the world's second-largest coal consumer and has been the fastest-growing coal import market since 2022, driven by power demand growth that renewable energy capacity additions have not yet been able to meet. South Africa's Richards Bay Coal Terminal — the world's largest coal export terminal — and Mozambique's Nacala Corridor coal export infrastructure together give southern African producers direct Atlantic and Indian Ocean export routes to India's east and west coast power plant clusters. South African RB1 and RB3 coal grades are specification-matched to India's thermal power plants and command premium pricing over Indonesian and Australian alternatives when logistics costs are factored in. This commodity trading opportunity structures direct multi-season offtake agreements between verified South African or Mozambican coal producers or traders (RBCT allocation, Mozambique Ministry of Mineral Resources export licence, minimum 100,000 MT annual supply capacity) and Indian power utilities, captive power plant operators, or coal trading companies. Annual contract value $15M-$80M covering 100,000-500,000 MT of thermal coal per year at specified calorific value grades.
