Requirement
Rwandan coffee has a reputation problem of the best kind: the cup quality is recognised at the top of the specialty market, and almost none of the value that recognition creates stays in Rwanda. Green bean leaves at a differential over the C price; the roaster in Portland or Melbourne who builds a brand on its origin story captures the rest. This partnership establishes specialty coffee processing and brand development inside the Kigali Special Economic Zone — washing and milling to specialty standard, cupping and lot separation, roasting, and the packaging and brand infrastructure required to sell finished product rather than raw origin. The strategic point is the brand: processing alone moves margin a little, but an owned specialty brand with verifiable Rwandan provenance moves it substantially. The Rwanda Development Board supports the structure with a 7-year tax holiday under SEZ terms, alongside the fast-track licensing and land allocation for which RDB is well regarded among African investment promotion agencies. $3M-$5M is sought from partners bringing roasting capability, specialty market access or brand-building capacity.
