Requirement
Rwanda's coffee and tea sectors generate over $180M in annual export revenue, with Rwandan single-origin coffee commanding some of the highest auction prices on the Nairobi Coffee Exchange — yet the country's 400,000+ smallholder coffee and tea farmers operate largely without digital tools for traceability, quality documentation, or market price intelligence. The National Agricultural Export Development Board's 2024 digital agriculture strategy identified traceability technology as the single investment that would unlock the largest premium pricing uplift across both sectors. This investment opportunity targets a Rwanda-based or Rwanda-focused AgriTech company delivering digital traceability, quality grading technology, or cooperative management platforms to coffee washing stations and tea factories. Investment range $3M–$8M supporting product development, cooperative network expansion, and export market access. The investee has existing contracts with minimum 5 Rwanda cooperative washing stations and demonstrated farmer adoption metrics. The ideal investor brings Africa AgriTech experience, patient capital with a 5-7 year horizon, and ideally connections to premium coffee roaster or tea buyer networks in Europe or North America that can drive offtake at premium prices. Impact measurement frameworks for smallholder income uplift are standard expectation; board advisory contribution valued. AfroSynergy structures this through the Investment Deal template. The founding team is verified at Enhanced tier given the investment size; investors verified at Basic minimum with accreditation documentation reviewed in the deal room. Co-investment structure available for syndication between two to three investors. Rwanda's Vision 2050 targets $1.5B in agricultural exports by 2030 — coffee and tea digitalisation is a stated priority with government co-investment available through the Rwanda Agricultural Board. The 2026 harvest season represents the first full year with Rwanda's National Traceability System operational, creating a data infrastructure foundation that AgriTech platforms can build directly upon.
