Renewable Energy Project Developer — East Africa Mini-Grid

Requirement

A DFI-backed energy access fund needs a project developer who has actually built mini-grids, not advised on them. The distinction matters because the work is dominated by three processes that do not go well for people learning them on the job. The first is environmental and social impact assessment. Mini-grids are small but they touch land, and a poorly run ESIA will stall a site for a year or fail at lender review. The second is power purchase agreement negotiation — with anchor commercial loads, with distribution utilities where interconnection is contemplated, and with regulators on tariff approval where the mini-grid serves residential customers at rates that must clear a public interest test. The third is licensing: REA and equivalent national frameworks, concession award, and the subsidy or results-based financing applications that usually determine whether a site is viable at all. The developer owns sites from prospecting through financial close and into construction oversight, working across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Compensation is $6,000-$12,000 monthly depending on pipeline responsibility. The requirement is high urgency against the fund's deployment targets.
