Requirement
Ghana holds an estimated 900 million tonnes of bauxite reserves — the 9th largest globally — yet exports 100% as raw ore at $18-22 per tonne when alumina refining would produce $320-380 per tonne and aluminium smelting $1,800-2,200 per tonne. The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), established by Act 976 of 2018 and capitalised with $150M in government seed funding, has completed feasibility studies for an integrated bauxite-to-aluminium value chain and is actively seeking private sector investment partners for the refinery and smelter stages. This investment opportunity targets $15M–$40M for equity participation in the GIADEC alumina refinery project: a 1.5 million tonne per annum alumina refinery at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region, processing Ghanaian bauxite with power from the Bui Dam hydroelectric facility. The deal structure includes GIADEC equity partnership, concessional financing from the African Export-Import Bank, and off-take agreements with European and Asian aluminium producers. The ideal investor is an aluminium industry strategic (existing aluminium producer or trader seeking upstream security), infrastructure fund with natural resources mandate, or industrial PE firm with mining and metals portfolio. Afreximbank and African Finance Corporation both maintain active Ghana aluminium sector engagement. AfroSynergy structures this through the Investment Deal template at Enhanced tier. Deal room includes GIADEC feasibility study, power purchase agreement with Bui Dam Authority, Afreximbank financing term sheet, and proposed off-take term sheets. Government co-investment terms from GIADEC available to verified strategic investors. Ghana's AfCFTA obligations include a manufactured goods preference schedule that provides duty-free aluminium product access to 53 African markets from Ghanaian production. An alumina refinery commissioned in 2026-2027 will be the first Ghanaian facility able to supply the continental market under AfCFTA preferences — before any competing West African aluminium producer establishes comparable capacity. Express interest to access GIADEC's full feasibility study and investment terms.
