Ghana Certified Timber Export — EU Timber Regulation Compliant Supply to European Markets

Requirement

Ghana is among Africa's most credible certified timber exporters: the EU-Ghana Voluntary Partnership Agreement, fully operational since 2017, provides a FLEGT licence system that gives Ghanaian timber the highest level of EU Timber Regulation compliance available from any African source — equivalent to due diligence waiver status. Yet Ghana exports less than 12% of its timber output to Europe, primarily because Ghanaian sawmills and timber merchants lack direct buyer relationships with European importers who are actively seeking FLEGT-compliant supply amid tightening EU Deforestation Regulation enforcement. This import/export opportunity structures direct supply relationships between verified Ghanaian timber exporters (FC Ghana Export Permit, FLEGT licence capability, minimum 500m³ quarterly supply capacity) and European timber importers, furniture manufacturers, or construction materials companies requiring EUDR-compliant African timber supply. Species available: wawa, odum, sapele, and iroko. Annual contract value £1.2M-£3.5M covering 2,000-8,000 m³ per year. The ideal European buyer is a UK or European timber importer, joinery manufacturer, or construction materials distributor with EUDR due diligence obligations and existing West African or tropical timber product lines. The Ghanaian exporter must hold a valid FC Ghana export permit, demonstrate FLEGT licence issuance capability, and show a minimum two seasons of consistent volume supply.
